Boy Meets Girl® University is a hands-on learning experience for students who aspire to work in the fashion industry and who want to learn about the creative business side of building a brand.
Boy Meets Girl® Creative Director and brand Founder Stacy Igel says, “I wanted to bring my brand to major campuses and classrooms throughout the country because I felt Boy Meets Girl® could be a positive influence for college and high- school girls.”
We were thrilled to launch Boy Meets Girl® University at Penn State back in 2011 and since then, we have taken our ideas to High Schools and Colleges all across the country! If you didn’t catch the show in the Episode of “Behind the Seams with Stacy Igel” watch it here or on Lockerz!
I. Partnerships / Collaborations
Fairfax Academy for Communication and the Arts, Fashion Design Class-Vienna, VA
Thirty students from the fashion design class at Fairfax Academy came to NYC to visit the Boy Meets Girl® offices. Founder/creative director, Stacy Igel, sat down with them to discuss her education and experiences in the fashion industry and how it all came together to shape what the brand is today. The visit inspired and encouraged the students while giving them an opportunity to observe and experience the fashion industry for themselves. Eight lucky girls won our trivia challenge and being from Virginia, they received tees, tanks and hoodies from our Boy Meets Girl® University collection for the University of Virginia. Check out all the fun we had here!
Bloglovin’ Contest Winner at New York Fashion Week
In December 2012, we joined forces with bloglovin’ in creating a contest where one lucky winner, Amanda Daucher, received an all expenses paid trip to New York City, among other prizes. Amanda, a senior at Madison High School and design student at Fairfax Academy in Vienna, VA, assisted our creative director/founder, Stacy Igel, in designing a new look for her Fall 2013 line for the Boy Meets Girl® New York Fashion Week runway show. Amanda not only created a shirt for the show but she helped to style it and attended the show to see her design on the runway.
“This contest supports students who wish to explore fashion and design and might not otherwise have the resources to break into the industry on their own,” Stacy said. Read more about the contest and Amanda’s experience in this Fairfax Times article and watch Amanda’s vlog about the event here. Also, check out Stacy’s blog post recapturing all the fun they had!
The University of Wisconsin’s Textile and Apparel Student Association- Madison, WI
Seven amazing students from the University of Wisconsin’s Textile and Apparel Student Association (TASA) came to NYC to visit the Boy Meets Girl® offices and meet our Founder/Creative Director, Stacy Igel (who is also a University of Wisconsin alum)! Stacy spoke with them about her experiences in college and how she began her career to get to where she is now. Everyone made a wish in the wish wall in our showroom and we played Boy Meets Girl® trivia where 4 students won a Wisconsin hoodie from our Boy Meets Girl® University collection! Pictures here!
New York Fashion Week with Lower Eastside Girls Club- NYC
Check out the pictures from our September 2012 Boy Meets Girl® by Stacy Igel “Forever Young” New York Fashion Week show presented by Lockerz captured by some of the amazing ladies from the Lower Eastside Girls Club! We were so lucky to have 13 girls shadow us in the areas you see listed below; including Photography, Social Media and Design just to name a few. The goal was to provide them with an educational experience taught through a first-hand account. We, however, greatly benefitted from their willingness to learn! The show would not have been possible without their help! Check out some recent press from the show as well here on our partnership!
